The author of the album - Ilona Karwińska - has spent the last twenty years documenting Warsaw's neon signs created in the post-war period. Many of the illuminated advertisements immortalized in the album have irretrievably disappeared from urban space. Often, the only evidence of their existence are the outlines left on the facades of buildings that they decorated in the past. On the pages of a richly illustrated publication drawings and designs by outstanding artists, graphic designers and architects from the archives of the Warsaw City Hall were published for the first time. They present an extraordinary image of the capital from the 1950s and 1960s.
“I have been carrying out the neon sign documentation project for nearly twenty years. It all started with photos of existing and, unfortunately, irretrievably disappearing neon signs that could be found on the streets of Warsaw. Thanks to the album, a trace of these amazing light advertisements that could not be saved in the Neon Museum is preserved. This is a second edition publication of the Neon Museum, full of original documentation and projects that are published here for the first time.” Ilona Karwińska
