76. Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising

Dear Sir or Madam,

The 76th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising is approaching. Varsovians cannot imagine the beginning of August without paying tribute to the heroes of the Uprising and commemorating the fallen and murdered during this great uprising.

The Warsaw Uprising is one of the most important events in the history of Poland - it contributed to the shaping of today's identity not only of Warsaw, but also of our entire country. Despite different assessments of the decisions of the Underground leaders and the results of the Uprising, Poles are united by the myth of the insurgents themselves.

Every year, Warsaw takes care to solemnly recall the sacrifice of its inhabitants in 1944 and to pay tribute to the fallen and murdered. It will also be so now, during the celebration of the 76th anniversary of the Uprising. However, this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are operating, not only in this regard, in particularly difficult conditions.

Due to epidemic restrictions and due to concern for the safety of our guests and residents, we are forced to limit the scope of this year's celebrations. Some of them will be held in traditional form and most will be available for participation via the media and the Internet.

I cordially encourage you to familiarize yourself with the program of the celebrations, follow them and experience this anniversary together with the residents of Warsaw.

Rafał Trzaskowski
President of the Capital City of Warsaw
